What was a downward trend for one straight year in the United States unemployment rate (see Chart 1) has ended as of May, 2012. The U.S. Bureau of Labor’s June 1 news release states that “Nonfarm payroll employment changed little in May (+69,000), and the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 8.2 percent.”
The news of halted national job growth will certainly be a jumping-off point for Obama’s opposition, Mitt Romney, and his campaign, with the Republican candidate locked in to the nomination after Texas’ primary on Tuesday earlier this week.
